The intelligent shopping basket is a smart trolley which uses a embedded chip (raspberry pi) with a RFID reader. The main theme of this is to decrease the time consumption in the billing counters at the super markets by designing a smart shopping using basket which allows users to checkout from the malls or markets and increase the time of production. A customer has to wait for billing after his shopping. So, to avoid headache like pulling trolley, waiting in billing queue, we are introducing new concept that is “SMART TROLLEY”. In this system we use RFID tags will be on the product. Whenever the customer puts a product into trolley it will get scanned by RFID reader and product price and cost will be displayed on LCD display.16×2 LCD display will be used to display products names, products cost etc.
The block diagram of Smart Trolley contains following elements:
- Microcontroller Arduino UNO
- RFID Reader and Tag
- Load Cell
- Load Cell Amplifier
- 16X2 LCD
- Push Button
The main element of this circuit is Arduino Nano microcontroller. This microcontroller takes data from RFID tag and load cell and gives the data to the LCD to display and buzzer to act accordingly. So, in a mall or a shopping place, the product will be kept at their respective place with a RFID reader at each one of them. Now if a customer wants to buy that product, he will go and ask at the counter, the person at the counter will give him the RFID tag related to that product, the customer will then go and swipe the tag on the RFID reader of respective product. He can swipe it multiple time as per the number of that products packet he wants. When he swipes the RFID tag at the product, the RFID reader reads the signal and send it to the microcontroller. Microcontroller logs the product and its price and the billing for that product is done. Also the buzzer connected to RFID reader EM-18 will beep the moment RFID tag is swiped and RFID reader reads it. Microcontroller will also send the signal to the LCD to display the product name and the number of times it is swiped. After finishing the shopping of that product, the product goes through the load cell. The microcontroller will already be programmed for each products weight. So if the number of times product is swiped and the weight calculated for it doesn’t match at the load cell weighing, it will give a warning message at the LCD. This way the product will be included and billed together when the customer picks it up, saving the time at the queue, the customer only will have to pay for the products picket at the billing counter. There are two push buttons connected with Arduino Nano microcontroller. If 1st one is pressed, the customer will be able to see the total price of the product he has selected to buy. If 2nd button is pressed, the system is calibrated and brought to 0 Rs. at the counter. When both of the buttons are pressed, the cart will get empty leaving the scope for next customer. Calibration is done before a customer starts adding product to his trolley, 1st button is used when he is done with adding all the products he wanted to enter, both 1st and 2nd are pressed once one customer is done will shopping and billing.
