An air quality monitor is a device that measures the level of common air pollutants. Monitors are available for both indoor and outdoor settings. Indoor air quality monitors are typically sensor-based instruments. Some of them are able to measure ppb levels and come as either mixed gas or portable units. Sensor based instruments and air quality monitoring systems are used widely in outdoor ambient applications. Air pollution can be defined as an alteration of air quality that can be characterized by measurements of chemical, biological or physical pollutants in the air. Therefore, air pollution means the undesirable presence of impurities or the abnormal rise in the proportion of some constituents of the atmosphere. Presented here is a IoT enabled air pollution meter to monitor air quality on your smartphone using blynk application and Node MCU. Blynk is a Internet of Things (IoT) platform to control Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Node MCU and the like over the Internet. In this project a mobile application provides a digital dashboard on your smartphone that displays real-time air quality readings for the immediate surroundings.

Air monitoring system is a project that will detect the smoke, pollution, temperature and air in nearby area and show it in a mobile application. The Microcontroller + Wi-Fi module and the sensors plays an important role here. The pollution sensor GP2Y1010AU0F is integrated to the NodeMCU ESP8266. This module has 6 pins. This module has few LED’s that when glows, indicates that the module is working. The pins are V-LED which is connected with 3.3V pin of microcontroller through a resistor, LED-GND and S-GND is connected to the microcontroller ground, LED pin is connected to the D2 Pin of microcontroller, and V0 pin is connected to the A0 pin of microcontroller. This pollution sensor generates and output at it V0 pin, the microcontroller gets this as input at its A0 pin and sends an output to the mobile application through Wi-Fi hotspot. Mobile application will show the pollution level. Another one is MQ-3 smoke sensor. When this sensor detects the smoke in its area, it generates an output at its OUT pin. This OUT pin is connected to the D4 pin of the microcontroller. When microcontroller senses an input here, it sends output to the mobile application through Wi-Fi hotspot. Mobile application will show the status of smoke detection. DHT11 temperature & humidity sensor senses the temperature and humidity in the air around its environment. It generates an output at its OUT pin and this pin is connected to the D4 pin of microcontroller. Microcontroller calculates the temperature in ºC and humidity in percentage and sends this to the mobile application to show. The mobile application will need Wi-Fi to operate. The mobile containing this application will get Wi-Fi through the Wi-Fi hotspot created by NodeMCU ESP8266.
The main target of the project is to monitor the quality of the air and to find the percentage of the gases present in air and to provide the output in portable way by getting the output in our mobile phone through a customized application.
